Installing Wheel Bearing Housing

Zero position

1. 1.1  Replace screws and nuts on the control arms.
   WARNING: Danger of objects or loads falling down

   • Risk of squashing or crushing

     → Secure components to prevent them from falling down.

   WARNING: Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly

   • Risk of crushing
   • Risk of damage to components

     → Wear personal protective gear.

     → Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).

   Information 

   Threaded joints must only be tightened in zero position to prevent warping in the bearings.

2. 1.2  Before tightening the trailing arm screws: Raise the wheel suspension to zero position using lifting equipment > Zero position  (e.g. > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack)  .
3. 1.3  Tighten control arm screws.
4. 1.4  Tighten screw securing rear upper control arm to wheel bearing housing.

   > Initial tightening torque 100 Nm (73.8 ftlb.) 

   > Final tightening torque + 180 (133 ftlb) ° 

5. 1.5  Tighten screw securing front upper control arm to wheel bearing housing.

   > Initial tightening torque 70 Nm (51.6 ftlb.) 

   > Final tightening torque + 180 (133 ftlb.) ° 

6. 1.6  Tighten screw securing! longitudinal arm to wheel bearing housing.

   > Initial tightening of 70 Nm (52 ftlb.) (51.6 ftlb.) 

   > Final tightening + 180 (133 ftlb.) ° 

7. 1.7  Tighten screw securing trailing arm to wheel bearing housing.

   > Initial tightening 130 Nm (96 ftlb.) (95.9 ftlb.) 

   > Final tightening + 180 (133 ftlb.) ° 

8. 1.8  Tighten screw securing cable holder to rear wheel bearing housing.

   > Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.) (7.4 ftlb.) 

9. 1.9  Tighten screw on speed sensor.

   > Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.6 ftlb.) 

10. 1.10  Tighten screw on sensor for body.

    > Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.) 

11. 1.11  Replace clips on rear axle trim panel.
