Disassembling Drive Shaft

→ Secure components to prevent them from falling down.

The joint on the transmission side and the joint pin on the wheel side of the rear axle can be replaced. The entire drive shaft must be replaced if the profile shaft is defective.

Inner joint (transmission side)

Information

Before removing the bellows, mark the position of the bellows on the drive shaft with a coloured pen (see also >>Assembling drive shaft <<).

Remove circlip (on transmission side) using > VAS 5493 - circlip pliers .
Remove hose clamp using > VAS 6199A - clamping pliers .
Remove the bellows from the inner joint and slide it back. > Removing bellows

Removing bellows
Clamp the drive shaft (use aluminum protective jaws). Fit an aluminum mandrel on the ball hub (star-shaped inner ring) -Arrow- and remove the joint pin (inner join) using forceful hammer blows.

Removing joint (on transmission side)
Remove the hose clamps and bellows from the profile shaft.
Outer joint (on wheel side)
Clamp the drive shaft (use aluminum protective jaws). Fit an aluminum mandrel on the ball hub (star-shaped inner ring) -Arrow- and remove the joint pin (outer joint) using forceful hammer blows.
