Installing Trailing Arm - Vehicles Without Air Suspension
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Installation is performed in reverse order. Pay particular attention to the following:
Zero position (shown on rear axle as an example)
Information
Threaded joints must only be tightened in zero position to prevent warping in the bearings.
WARNING: Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly- Risk of crushing
- Risk of damage to components
→ Wear personal protective gear.
→ Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).
- 1.1 Before tightening the trailing arm screws: Lift the wheel suspension to zero position using lifting equipment (e.g. > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack) . > Zero position (shown on rear axle as an example)
- 1.2 Align eccentric threaded joint at the markings and tighten screw securing trailing arm to rear axle housing.
> Tightening torque 140 Nm (103 ftlb.) (103.3 ftlb.)
- 1.3 Replace screw securing trailing arm to wheel bearing housing.
- 1.4 Tighten screw securing trailing arm to wheel bearing housing.
> Initial tightening 130 Nm (96 ftlb.) (95.9 ftlb.) and > Final tightening + 180 (133 ftlb.) °
- 1.5 Replace screw securing shock absorber to trailing arm.
- 1.6 Tighten screw securing shock absorber to trailing arm.
> Initial tightening 70 Nm (52 ftlb.) (51.6 ftlb.) and > Final tightening + 180 (133 ftlb) °
- 1.7 Tighten threaded joint for air line at the air spring bellows.
> Tightening torque 3 Nm (2 ftlb.)
