Calibrating Fuel Level Sender

Information 

Information 

After draining or filling the fuel tank, the fuel level sender needs about one minute to react to this. If the new fuel level is not displayed after this time, the calculation of the fuel level can be triggered by releasing, disconnecting, connecting and locking the electric plug connection on the fuel level sender.

  1. Check whether an empty fuel level is displayed in the instrument cluster.
  2. Only if no empty fuel level is displayed in the instrument cluster:

    1. 2.1  Remove rear seat at the rear right.

      Information 

      The fuel pump cap can be damaged during removal. Replace it if necessary.

    2. 2.2  Remove fuel pump cap -1-

  3. Only if no empty fuel level is displayed in the instrument cluster: 

    Release and disconnect electric connections -3-  on the fuel pump unit -1-  and then reconnect them. The fault memory must then be read out and erased if necessary.

  4. Check whether an empty fuel level is displayed in the instrument cluster.
  5. Calibrate fuel level sender.
    1. 5.1  Connect the PIWIS Tester  to the vehicle and start it.
    2. 5.2  Switch on the ignition.
    3. 5.3  Select the required vehicle type.
    4. 5.4  Select Instrument cluster  control unit.
    5. 5.5  Select whether or not you want to create a vehicle analysis log (VAL).
    6. 5.6  Select Maintenance/repairs  menu.
    7. 5.7  Select Fuel tank calibration  menu.
    8. 5.8  The preconditions specified on the Tester must be met.
    9. 5.9  In the Select fuel-level sensor  menu, select whether you only want to calibrate fuel-level sensor 2 or both fuel-level sensors.
    10. 5.10  Select Fuel tank calibration  menu and perform calibration in accordance with instructions on the Tester.
    11. 5.11  The message Fuel tank calibration completed successfully  appears on the PIWIS Tester  screen.
    12. 5.12 PIWIS Tester  must now be disconnected from the vehicle.
  6. Fill in fuel.

    Information

  7. Check whether a full fuel level is displayed in the instrument cluster.
  8. Only if no full fuel level is displayed in the instrument cluster: 

    Release and disconnect electric connections -3-  on the fuel pump unit -1-  and then reconnect them.

  9. Check again whether a full fuel level is displayed in the instrument cluster.
  10. Only if no full fuel level is displayed in the instrument cluster: 

    Change terminals.

    1. 10.1  Switch off the ignition.
    2. 10.2  Wait 30 seconds.
    3. 10.3  Switch on the ignition.
  11. Check again whether a full fuel level is displayed in the instrument cluster.
  12. Complete the rear of the vehicle again.

    Information 

    The fuel pump cap can be damaged during removal. Replace it if necessary.

    1. 12.1  Install cover -1-  in the floorpan.
    2. 12.2  Install rear seat at the rear right.
