Check The Fuel System For Leaks

WARNING: Toxic substances
  • Danger of poisoning or suffocation
  • Danger of burns to the eyes and skin
    1. → Ventilate the work area well.
    2. → Never ingest or inhale.
    3. → Read specific information on the Hazard Sheet.
    4. → Wear personal protective gear.
    5. → Do not smoke, eat or drink in the work area.
WARNING: Highly inflammable or explosive materials
  • Danger of fire or explosion
    1. → Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.
    2. → Use suction to remove ignitable vapors.
    3. → Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.
    4. → Contain leaked media using non-flammable absorbent material and put it in a container designed for this purpose for disposal in accordance with local requirements.
    5. → Secure collection containers/vessels to prevent them from tipping over.
WARNING: Leaking fuel supply lines
  • Emerging fuel
  • Risk of Are
  • → Perform leak test.

NOTIFICATION

Dirt on injection system components

Information

Unapproved test gases will give incorrect test results. Only the approved test gases guarantee comparability with. fuel high-pressure systems at pressures of up to 10 bar  .

  1. Disconnect supply line -1-  at the connection point in the engine compartment.

Supply line - engine compartment connection point (shown on the Macan as an example)

    1. 1.1  Loosen spring band clamp -2-  using > VAS 6890 - spring band clamp pliers  .
    2. 1.2  Disconnect supply line -1-  and catch escaping fuel.
    3. 1.3  Close off the supply line connection on the vehicle side using a suitable stopper.
  2. Get supply line -1-  ready for checking.

Adapter VAG 1318/11 on supply line

    1. 2.1  > V.A.G 1318 - K-Jetronic tester-3-  must be inserted into the supply line on the engine side
    2. 2.2  Secure spring band clamp -2-  using > VAS 6890 - spring band clamp pliers  on the supply line -1-  .

    NOTIFICATION

    Test pressure is exceeded

    • Risk of damage to high-pressure pump
      1. → The test gas test pressure must be set to less than > Pressure 10 bar  on the pressure reducer on the test gas bottle.
  3. Connect test gas bottle.
    1. 3.1  Close the pressure reducer completely (minimum pressure).
    2. 3.2 Connect test gas bottle with pressure reducer and  > VAS 6231 - air suspension strut charger unit to  > V.A.G 1318 -K-Jetronic tester  . Make sure that no gas can escape at the connection point.
    3. 3.3  Set the gas pressure on the pressure reducer to max. 10 bar.

    Information

If the fuel high-pressure system is partly disassembled, residual fuel must be removed from the removed components using compressed air. Otherwise, any residual fuel in the components can influence the test result.

  4. If parts of the fuel high-pressure system are disassembled:

Use > VAS 6231 - air suspension strut charger unit  to apply short bursts of pressure in order to remove residual fuel from the fuel high-pressure system. Collect emerging fuel.

  5. Fit all components of the fuel high-pressure system correctly and tighten to the prescribed tightening torque.

    Information

A once-off drop in pressure after applying pressure to the system can be due to the distribution of the compressed gas in the system and is not significant.

  6. Use > VAS 6231 - air suspension strut charger unit  to apply test gas pressure of approx. 7 to 9.5 bar  to the fuel high-pressure system.
  7. Check the test pressure.
    1. 7.1  Check the test pressure on the pressure gauge. If there is a constant drop in pressure, there is a leak in the system.
    2. 7.2  If there is a leak:

      Find the leak.
