Removing Power-Steering Gear Warning Caution

CAUTION: Electrically moved components 
  • Danger of limbs being trapped 
    1. → Switch off electric power to drive motor.
    2. → Make sure it does not switch on again.
    3. → Check that there is no electric charge.

Information 

The PDCC system can be active when the ignition is switched on (even when the vehicle is stationary). To avoid injury/crushing, only work near the anti-roll bar, lower trailing arm and bellows of the steering gear when the ignition is switched off and always allow for the run-on time of 60 seconds.

  1. Loosen universal joint for steering column -1-  .

    Universal joint for steering column

    1. 1.1 Unscrew screw -2-  .
    2. 1.2 Disconnect universal joint for steering column -1-  from the power-steering gear.
  2. Disconnect electric wire harness for steering gear -1-  .

    Electric plug connections for power-steering gear

    1. 2.1 Release and disconnect electric plug connections for the steering gear -2 and 3-  .
    2. 2.2 Unclip line clip -2 and 3-  .
    3. 2.3 Set electric wire harness for steering gear -1-  aside.
  3. Remove power-steering gear -1-  .

    Power-steering gear

    1. 3.1 Support the power-steering gear -1-  using > VAS 6931 - transmission and engine jack  .
    2. 3.2 Unscrew screws on power-steering gear -2-  .
    3. 3.3 Guide power-steering gear -1-  down out of the front axle using transmission jack -Arrow-  and remove it.
