Removing Bellows For Steering-Gear Housing Warning Caution

CAUTION: Electrically moved components 
  • Danger of limbs being trapped 
    1. → Switch off electric power to drive motor.
    2. → Make sure it does not switch on again.
    3. → Check that there is no electric charge.

Information 

The PDCC system can be active when the ignition is switched on (even when the vehicle is stationary). To avoid injury/crushing, only work near the anti-roll bar, lower trailing arm and bellows of the steering gear when the ignition is switched off and always allow for the run-on time of 60 seconds.

  1. Unscrew lock nut for tie-rod ball from the tie rod.
  2. Loosen spring band clamp -Arrow-  on the steering-gear housing bellows using > VAS 6890 - spring band clamp pliers  .

  3. Open inner clamp -1-  on the steering-gear housing bellows using suitable pliers.

  4. Pull steering-gear housing bellows -3-  together with the two clamps off the tie rod -2-  .
