Installing Lower Trailing Arm

WARNING: Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly 
  • Risk of crushing 
  • Risk of damage to components
    • → Wear personal protective gear.
    • → Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).

Information 

Threaded joints must only be tightened in zero position to prevent warping in the bearings.

  1. Installation is performed in reverse order. Pay particular attention to the following:
    1. 1.1 Protect rubber boot on tie rod from damage using fabric tape.
    2. 1.2 Screw on and tighten new  nut -6-  .

      > Tightening torque 140 Nm (103.3 ftlb.) 

    3. 1.3 Fit new threaded connections -2 to 5-  on the lower trailing arm.

    4. 1.4 Before tightening the trailing arm screws: Lift wheel suspension to zero position using > VAS 6931 - transmission and gearbox jack  . > Zero position (shown on rear axle as an example)

    5. 1.5 Tighten new nut -3-  securing lower trailing arm to front-axle carrier and counter at screw -2-  .

      > Initial tightening 70 Lower Nm (51.6 ftlb.) 

      > Final tightening + 180° 

    6. 1.6 Tighten new nut -5-  securing lower trailing arm to spring strut fork and counter at screw -4-  .

      > Initial tightening 40 Nm (30 ftlb.) 

      > Final tightening + 180° 

    7. 1.7 Tighten nut -3-  on connecting link for angle sensor for headlight beam adjustment (HBA) and counter at screw -2-  .

      > Tightening torque 8 Nm (6 ftlb.)

    8. 1.8 Remove fabric tape from the rubber boot on the tie rod.
