    1. 3.1  Check toe value.

      > 4495TW SETTING VALUES FOR SUSPENSION ALIGNMENT

      CAUTION: Electrically moved components
      • Danger of limbs being trapped

→ Switch off electric power to drive motor.

→ Make sure it does not switch on again.

→ Check that there is no electric charge.

      Information

The PDCC system can be active when the ignition is switched on (even when the vehicle is stationary). To avoid injury/crushing, only work near the anti-roll bar, lower trailing arm and bellows of the steering gear when the ignition is switched off and always allow for the run-on time of 60 seconds.

    2. 3.2  Loosen lock nut -1-  and counter at the tie-rod ball -2-  while doing this.

      Information

Make sure that the bellows are not twisted after turning the tie rods!

Subsequent work

WARNING: Steering-angle sensor not calibrated or calibrated incorrectly
  • Unexpected vehicle handling
  • Steering-angle sensor does not function
  • Malfunction in steering-angle sensor

→ After working on wheel suspension parts, when replacing the steering-angle sensor, and after changing the wheel alignment values, calibrate the steering-angle sensor using the PIWIS Tester  .

→ Keep the front wheels in straight-ahead position on the measuring platform during calibration.

→ For vehicles with electromechanical steering, also re-teach the electric steering lock settings.

If the previous wheel alignment values (on rear and/or front axle) were changed, the following subsequent work must be performed:

  1. Calibrate steering-angle sensor for PSM.

    > 456005 INITIALIZE AND CALIBRATE STEERING-ANGLE SENSOR

  2. Teaching power steering gear.

    > 489025 TEACHING POWER STEERING GEAR

  3. If installed:  Calibrate distance measuring sensor control unit.

    > 278515 ADJUST DISTANCE MEASURING SENSOR CONTROL UNIT

  4. If installed:  Calibrate front camera.

    > 963855 REPLACE FRONT CAMERA

  5. If installed:  Calibrate infrared camera.

    > 908019 REMOVE AND INSTALL INFRARED CAMERA
