Installing Brake Shoes

WARNING: Preloaded or pressurized components
  • Risk of injury (e.g. crushing or bruising) when removing and installing springs.

    → Do not reach into the danger area.

    → Relieve the tension on components before starting work.

    → Secure components to prevent them from loosening suddenly.

    → Wear protective gloves and goggles.

    → Be very careful when working on the brake system.

  1. Clean and grease contact points.
  2. Remove tie-wrap from spreader device. > Spreader device

  3. Pre-fit brake shoes

    Brake shoes

    1. 3.1  Insert adjustment device -2-  into brake shoes -1-  .
    2. 3.2  Engage spring -6-  in brake shoes -1-. 
  4. Install brake shoes

    Brake shoes

    1. 4.1  Fit and center brake shoes -1-  .
    2. 4.2  Insert brake shoes -1-  in the spreader.
    3. 4.3  Engage spring -5-  in brake shoes -1-  .
  5. Install retaining pins

    Retaining pins on brake shoes

    1. 5.1  Fit springs -2-  on retaining pins -1-  and insert them into the brake shoes -3-  .
    2. 5.2  Push retaining pins -1-  against the spring pressure through the cut-outs -4-  in the brake cover panel and turn them 90°.
    3. 5.3  Check that the retaining pins -1-  are seated correctly on the back of the brake cover panel.
  6. Check that the brake shoes are centred.
