Checking Lateral Runout (Brake Disc/Wheel Hub)

  1. Check brake disc lateral runout.
    1. 1.1  Remove wheel.

      > Refer to WM, 440519 REMOVING AND FITTING WHEEL

    2. 1.2  > 9510/1 - Adapter plate  must be tightened to > Tightening torque 160 Nm (118 ftlb.)  > Adapter plate on wheel hub (shown as an example)

    3. 1.3 > VAS 6079/1 - Dial gauge holder for brake discs  must be fitted at a suitable position on the wheel bearing housing. > Dial gauge on brake disc (shown as an example)

    4. 1.4  Fit the dial gauge with some preload and measure the lateral runout at the greatest external diameter of the brake disc.
    5. 1.5  If the lateral runout of the fitted brake disc is greater than > Measured value 0.06 mm  , check wheel hub lateral runout. see below 
  2. Check wheel hub lateral runout.

    1. 2.1  Remove front brake disc.

      > 465019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT BRAKE DISC 

      Information 

      The front face of the wheel hub must not be corroded and must be cleaned if necessary using a polishing cloth.

    2. 2.2  > VAS 6079/1 - Dial gauge holder for brake discs  must be fitted at a suitable position on the wheel bearing housing.

      > Dial gauge on wheel hub (shown as an example) 

    3. 2.3  Fit dial gauge with slight preload and measure both the external and internal diameter of the front face of the wheel hub.
    4. 2.4  If the lateral runout of the fitted brake disc is greater than > Measured value 0.03 mm  , replace the wheel hub. Otherwise, replace the front brake disc.
