Preliminary Work

  1. Disconnect 48-volt vehicle electrical system.

  2. Remove wheels.

  3. Remove front-axle support.

  4. Remove anti-roll bar.

    > 407719 REMOVING AND REINSTALLING FRONT STABILISER (PDCC) - information on "Removing" The PDCC system can be active when the ignition is switched on (even when the vehicle is stationary). To avoid injury/crushing, only work near the anti-roll bar, lower trailing arm and bellows of the steering gear when the ignition is switched off and always allow for the run-on time of 60 seconds.

  5. To make it easier to remove the tie-rod ball, swivel the relevant wheel bearing housing so that the tie rod is fully extended.
  6. Remove air guide for brake disc -1-  .

    1. 6.1  Cut tie-wrap -2-  .
    2. 6.2  Remove air guide for brake disc -1-  .
  7. Remove tie-rod ball -1-  at the wheel bearing housing.
    1. 7.1  Unscrew nut -2-  on joint pin for the tie-rod ball as far as required so that it is flush with the upper edge of the joint pin.

    2. 7.2  Press off joint pin on the tie-rod ball using > T40010A - ball joint puller  .

    3. 7.3  Unscrew nut from the joint pin on the tie-rod ball and counter at the hexagon socket of the joint pin.
