Installing Upper Control Arm At The Rear

  1. Installation is performed in reverse order. Pay particular attention to the following:

    Zero position (shown on rear axle as an example)

    1. 1.1  Replace screws on control arm.
      WARNING: Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly
      • Risk of crushing
      • Risk of damage to components

        → Wear personal protective gear.

        → Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).

      Information 

      Threaded joints must only be tightened in zero position to prevent warping in the bearings.

    2. 1.2  Before tightening the trailing arm screws: Lift the wheel suspension to zero position using lifting equipment (e.g. > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack)  .
    3. 1.3  Tighten screw securing control arm to wheel bearing housing.

      > Initial tightening torque 100 Nm (73.8 ftlb.)  and > Final tightening torque + 180 (133 ftlb) ° 

    4. 1.4  Tighten screw securing control arm to rear axle housing.

      > Initial tightening 70 Nm (51.6 ftlb.)  and > Final tightening torque + 180° 

    5. 1.5  Only after removing upper control arm at the rear (right):

      Tighten nuts securing stone guard to valve unit holder.

      > Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.)
