Installing Trailing Arm - Vehicles With Air Suspension
Information
Check the following before installing the air line:
- Check that the cutting ring -1- and Voss threaded joint -2- are on the air line -3- (not relevant if the air spring bellows was replaced and the Voss threaded joint that is pre-fitted on the air spring bellows is used).
- Check that the air line is fitted correctly.
Checking air line
Only one marking -1- on the air line should be visible.
Pull the air line briefly against the insertion direction. If it cannot be pulled out, the air line is fitted correctly.
Checking that air line is fitted correctly
- Installation is performed in reverse order. Pay particular attention to the following:
Zero position (shown on rear axle as an example)
- 1.1 Make sure that the air spring bellows is clipped correctly into the trailing arm.
- 1.2
When fitting the air line on the air spring bellows, insert air line as far as it will go.WARNING: Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly
- Risk of crushing
- Risk of damage to components
→ Wear personal protective gear.
→ Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).
Information
Threaded joints must only be tightened in zero position to prevent warping in the bearings.
- 1.3 Before tightening the trailing arm screws: Lift the wheel suspension to zero position using lifting equipment (e.g. > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack) .
- 1.4
Align eccentric threaded joint at the markings and tighten screw securing trailing arm to rear axle housing.
> Tightening torque 140 Nm (103 ftlb.) (103.3 ftlb.)
- 1.5 Replace screw securing trailing arm to wheel bearing housing.
- 1.6
Tighten screw securing trailing arm to wheel bearing housing.
> Initial tightening 130 Nm (96 ftlb.) (95.9 ftlb.) and > Final tightening + 180 (133 ftlb.) °
- 1.7 Replace screw securing shock absorber to trailing arm.
- 1.8
Tighten screw securing shock absorber to trailing arm.
> Initial tightening 70 Nm (52 ftlb.) (51.6 ftlb.) and > Final tightening + 180 (133 ftlb) °
- 1.9
Tighten threaded joint for air line at the air spring bellows.
> Tightening torque 3 Nm (2 ftlb.)
