Preliminary Work

  1. Remove rear axle.

    > 420119 REMOVING AND INSTALLING REAR AXLE 

Replacing rear-axle bearing (front) 

WARNING: Mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic press
  • Risk of squashing 

    → Read specific safety information for the press.

    → Check that the press is working perfectly before use, particularly the safety components.

Information 

The following tools are required for replacing the front hearing:

  1. Mark installation position of the rear-axle bearing (front) with respect to the rear axle housing. > Installation position of rear-axle bearing (front)

  2. Lever off twist lock -1-  using a screwdriver. Repeat the process for the new bearing.
  3. Prise plastic insert -2-  off the rear-axle beaing (front). Repeat the process for the new bearing.

  4. Press out rear-axle bearing (front).

  5. Rear-axle bearing (front)
    1  Spindle from > T10205A - attachments 
    2  > VAS 6178 - Hydraulic cylinder 
    3  Support ring T40328/3 
    4  Pipe T40328/1 
    5  Support ring T40328/7  (The conical side must be facing upwards and the bars must engage in the cut-outs on the rear-axle bearing (front))
    6  Pressure piece T40328/10  (The cut-out is facing the rear-axle bearing (front))
    7  Nuts from > T10205A - attachments 
  6. Align rear-axle bearing (front) with the previously applied markings. Lug -1-  must be facing right in direction of travel on both sides of the vehicle.

    Information 

    Press the front bearing in as far as required until there is no gap between the rubber -1-  and the contact surface of the rear axle housing.

    Overpressing the bearing can damage the rubber. The bearing must be replaced in this case.

  7. Press in rear-axle bearing (front).

    Rear-axle bearing (front)

    1  Spindle from > T10205A - attachments 
    2  > VAS 6178 - Hydraulic cylinder 
    3  Support ring T40328/3 
    4  Pressure piece T40328/8  (The bars must engage in the cut-outs on the rear-axle bearing (front))
    5  Rear-axle bearing (front)
    6  Pressure piece T40328/9 
    7  Nuts from > T10205A - attachments 
  8. Fit plastic insert -2-  on the rear-axle bearing (front).
  9. Fit twist lock -1-  on the new rear-axle bearing (front).
