Removing E-Box

  • Electric shock

    1. → Only appropriately trained and authorised persons are permitted to work on high-voltage vehicles and components.
    2. → Required qualification: High voltage technician or high voltage expert.
    3. → Observe national requirements and legislation for this work.
    4. → Always use insulated tools, e.g. > VAS 6883 - Insulated Tool Set  when working on these components.
    5. → Observe general warning notes for working on the high-voltage system.
    6. → > WM, 2X00IN GENERAL WARNING NOTES FOR WORKING ON THE HIGH-VOLTAGE SYSTEM
WARNING: Hot fluid 
  • Danger of scalding 
    1. → Avoid contact with hot fluid.
    2. → Wear personal protective gear.

These regulations to be complied with have to be checked, observed and, if necessary, documented by the person responsible for the vehicle for all life phases and work.

  1. Perform tests for verifying absence of electric charge and insulation resistance tests using > VAS 6558A - high-voltage testing module  , > VAS 6558/9-7 - HV test adapter HVR 40  and > 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3  .

    > 270803 TESTING HIGH-VOLTAGE BATTERY 

  2. Disconnect electric plug connection -1-  to EBox -2-  and remove it.

  3. Unscrew -1-  bolts and remove bracket -2-  .

  4. Remove coolant hose -2-  .

    1. 4.1  Open spring band clamp -1-  using > VAS 6890 - spring band clamp pliers  and pull off coolant hose -2-  .
    2. 4.2  Catch emerging coolant.
    3. 4.3  Close off opening using a suitable stopper.
  5. Remove E-box.

    Information 

    Replace micro-self-locking screw.

    1. 5.1  Unscrew fastening screws -1-  using > VAS 691 003A - TORX® high-voltage tool set  . The exposed threads must be cleaned.

    2. 5.2  > 9924 - Centring pins-1-  must now be screwed into the exposed threads.

    3. 5.3  Unscrew fastening screws -1-  .

    4. 5.4  Carefully disconnect E-box from the high-voltage battery.
