Information

Recommendation for workshops replacing shock absorbers/spring dampers:

Information

If the coil spring is replaced: Always replace coil springs in pairs only!

Information

Do not damage/scratch the shock absorber pipe and piston rod.

Information

Do not fit the stop cap at an angle!

  2. Clamp the spring strut -1-  in > VAS 6908 - spring tensioning device, stationary  in such a way that the mounting plates -2  -of the spring tensioning device are positioned on the spring strut supporting mount.
  3. Pre-tension the spring strut until the tension on the piston rod is relieved.
  4. Unscrew nut using > T10001 - shock absorber set-3 and 4-  . Counter using multiple-tooth socket on the piston rod at the same time.

  5. Relieve tension on the spring strut (there must be no tension on the coil spring!).
  6. Remove all components from the piston rod.
  7. If the shock absorber is replaced:  Convert spring strut fork -1-  for the new shock absorber.

    Mounting for spring strut fork

    1. 7.1  Loosen threaded joint -2-  .
    2. 7.2  > 3424 - Spreader  must be inserted into the slot on the spring strut fork.
    3. 7.3  > 3424 - Spreader  must then be turned 90 degrees.
    4. 7.4  Remove spring strut fork and push it onto the new shock absorber.
    5. 7.5  Remove spreader and tighten screws -2-  . > Initial tightening 40 Nm (30 ftlb.)  > Final tightening + 180°
  8. Fit all components on the piston rod.
  9. Align the spring strut supporting mount with the spring strut fork.

    Spring strut

    1. 9.1  The bore on the spring strut supporting mount must be at an angle of > Angle 90°  with respect to lug on spring strut fork.
  10. Pre-tension the spring strut until the tension on the piston rod is relieved.
  11. Tighten nut on supporting mount. Counter using multiple-tooth socket on the piston rod at the same time.

Conventional spring strut: > Tightening torque 50 Nm (37 ftlb.)

Spring strut with PASM: > Tightening torque 60 Nm (44 ftlb.)

  12. Relieve tension on the spring strut and remove it from > VAS 6908 - spring tensioning device  .
  13. Fit cap -1-  on the spring strut.
