Removing Wheel Bearing Housing

Information 

The procedure for removing and installing is described for one side as an example. The procedure for the other side is almost identical.

  1. Remove brake cover panel

    Brake cover panel, front 

    1. 1.1  Unscrew screws on brake cover panel -2-  .
    2. 1.2  Remove brake cover panel -1 
  2. Remove speed sensor

    Speed sensor 

    1. 2.1  Release and disconnect electric plug connection -2-  .
    2. 2.2  Unscrew screw -3-  .
    3. 2.3  Pull out speed sensor
  3. Remove sensor for body

    Sensor for body 

    1. 3.1  Release and disconnect electric plug connection -2-  .
    2. 3.2  Unscrew screw -3-  .
    3. 3.3  Remove sensor for body
  4. Unscrew nut -2-  on joint pin for tie-rod ball -1-  until it is flush with the upper edge of the joint pin.

    Mounting for tie rod on wheel bearing housing 

  5. Press tie-rod ball off the wheel bearing housing.

    Ball joint puller (main diagram) 

    1. 5.1  > T40010A - Ball joint puller  must be positioned on the tie-rod ball. > Ball joint puller (main diagram) 
    2. 5.2  Press tie-rod ball off the wheel bearing housing using > T40010 - ball joint puller  . > Ball joint puller (main diagram) 
  6. Unscrew nut -2-  and remove tie-rod ball -1-  from wheel bearing housing.

  7. Loosen upper trailing arms -1 and 2-  .

    Upper trailing arms on wheel bearing housing 

    1. 7.1  Unscrew nut -3-  and counter at screw -4-  at the same time.
    2. 7.2  Remove screw -4-  from wheel bearing housing -5-  .
    3. 7.3  Lift both trailing arms -1 and 2-  up out of the wheel bearing housing -5-  .
  8. Detach control arm -1-  at the wheel bearing housing -2-  .

    Control arm at wheel bearing housing 

    1. 8.1  Screw off nut on control arm joint pin -3-  .
    2. 8.2  Use > T10187 - ball joint puller  to press axle joint off the wheel bearing housing -2-  .
    3. 8.3  Guide control arm -1-  out of the wheel bearing housing -2-  .
  9. Remove drive shaft heat shield

    Drive shaft heat shield 

    1. 9.1  Unscrew screws on drive shaft heat shield -2-  and counter at the nuts.
    2. 9.2  Remove drive shaft heat shield

    Drive shaft 

    1. 10.1  Unscrew drive shaft screws -2-  .
    2. 10.2  Guide drive shaft -1-  to the rear on the transmission side -Arrow-  and pull it out of the wheel bearing housing.
    3. 10.3  Guide out and remove the drive shaft
  11. Loosen lower trailing arm -1-  on wheel bearing housing -2-  .

    Wheel bearing housing 

    1. 11.1  Unscrew clamping screw on lower axle joint -3-  .
    2. 11.2  Open up clamp using > 3424 - spreader  .
    3. 11.3  Pull wheel bearing housing -2-  off the lower axle joint and remove it. -Arrow-
