Replacing Distance Measuring Sensor Control Unit
NOTIFICATION
Voltage drop
- Irreparable damage to control unit
- Damage to control unit
- Fault entries in the control unit
- Control unit programming/coding is aborted
- Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming
→ Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.
→ Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.
→ Connect the battery charger with at least>current 90 A to the vehicle battery.

Ensure the consistency of a combination of hardware and software versions
After performing software updates, always make sure that the target software versions are also actually installed on the control units and that the system is therefore ensured.
This also applies in the case of hardware replacement.

The PIWIS Tester instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.
The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester.
- Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
- Select the vehicle type if necessary.
- Select the distance measuring sensor control unit in the overview . Press F12 to continue. Is a "Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)" to be created? Press F11 to continue.
- Select Commission component protection.
Follow instructions and procedure.
- 4.1 Read and follow the instructions and information on the Tester.
- 4.2 Teach component protection according to menu guidance.
- 4.3 The tester displays the message: Component protection taught.
- Go back to the Overview.
- Select the distance measuring sensor control unit in the overview. Press F12 to continue.
- Select Coding/programming.
- Select Automatic coding
. Press F12 to continue.
- 8.1 The tester displays the message: Coding successfully performed.
- Teach combination sensor.
- 9.1 Select the Airbag control unit in the Overview.
- 9.2 Select Maintenance/repairs.
- 9.3 Select Teach combination sensor. Press F12 to continue
- 9.4 Read and follow the instructions and warnings on the tester. Press F8 to start.
- If installed: Calibrate rear spoiler.
- If installed: Calibrate panoramic roof.
- Select Maintenance/repairs.
- Select Reset personalisation.
Press F12 to continue.
- 13.1 Perform activation according to menu guidance.
- Go back to the Overview.
- Read out all fault memories and erase them if necessary.
- Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
