WM, 2706IN General Information On The 12-Volt Lithium-Ion Battery: Information: Notes
Information
Observe the following specifications for all the work described:
- Country-specific, national, legal and official regulations,
- Local restrictions and export restrictions,
- Manufacturer specifications from component and vehicle manufacturers,
- Component-specific specifications.
These strict specifications apply in particular to:
- Storage, installation and removal, transport and disposal of vehicles, assemblies, operating materials and auxiliary materials,
- Handling defective and potentially hazardous vehicles as well as assemblies,
- Handling battery electric vehicles and high-voltage components.
Consider relevant and qualified sources of information such as local authorities, competent importer, associations and specialized websites for this purpose. Only deliver items to be disposed of to authorized reception points.
These regulations to be complied with have to be checked, observed and, if necessary, documented by the person responsible for the vehicle for all life phases and work.
Information
Never connect a battery charger for providing an external power supply or for jump-lead starting directly to the battery in the vehicle.
Always connect a battery charger for providing an external power supply or for jump-lead starting to the defined connections in the engine compartment.

Information
The 12-volt lithium-ion battery is a maintenance-free, sealed battery.
- This battery must not be opened. If the battery is opened, it must be replaced.
- After replacing the battery, the serial number and part number as well as the battery size and manufacturer must be entered using the PIWIS Tester under: Gateway/Maintenance/repairs/Change battery.
- The battery size and battery manufacturer must also be entered when changing the battery.
Information
- To prevent contact corrosion, only approved bolts, nuts, washers, etc. should be used. These elements have a special surface coating and must be stored separately.
Information
The lithium-ion battery must be charged with a charge voltage of 14.4 volts.
Before charging the battery, check setting parameters of the charger and change them if necessary. Follow the operating instructions for the charger to do this.
- Connect battery charger with at least>current 90 A to vehicle battery.
Charge lithium-ion battery until the charging current is < 5 A.
Use >VAS 5908 - battery charger 90 A.
The battery is one of the most important electrical components in the vehicle. The battery's fault-free function makes a significant contribution to customer satisfaction. To guarantee long and efficient operation, the battery must be checked and maintained according to the instructions provided here.
Besides the start function, the battery also has the tasks of buffer and supplier of electrical power for the entire vehicle electrical system.
A lithium-ion battery offers the following advantages:
Lightweight
Higher recuperation power
High cold-start performance
long service life
Compact
High vehicle electrical system stability
