Removing Automatic Transmission

Risk of squashing or crushing
→ Secure components to prevent them from falling down.

Have suitable stoppers ready for closing off the line connections.
Disconnect coolant hose -1- on additional coolant pump at the right.

Additional coolant pump at the right
1. 2.1 Loosen spring band clamp -2- using > VAS 6890 - spring band clamp pliers .
2. 2.2 Disconnect coolant hose -1- from additional coolant pump -3- .
Unscrew screws on heat shield -2- and remove heat shield on additional coolant pump -1- .

Disconnect additional coolant pump -1- at the left.

1. 4.1 Unlock and disconnect electric plug connection of additional coolant pump -2- .
2. 4.2 Unscrew screws on additional coolant pump holder -3- .
3. 4.3 Loosen spring band clamp -4- using > VAS 6890 - spring band clamp pliers .
4. 4.4 Disconnect coolant hose -5- from coolant pipe -6- .
5. 4.5 Close off line connections using suitable stoppers.
6. 4.6 Move additional coolant pump -1- aside.
Disconnect coolant line.

Coolant line
1. 5.1 Loosen spring band clamp -1- using > VAS 6890 - spring band clamp pliers .
2. 5.2 Disconnect coolant hose -2- from coolant pipe -3- .
3. 5.3 Close off line connections using suitable stoppers.
  Information
  
  To make it easier to turn the engine, the drive belts can be removed from the generator and air-conditioning compressor.
  
  > Removing and installing drive belt (V8 biturbo)
Only if not done while removing engine:
Unscrew screws securing torque converter to drive plate -1- .

Drive plate screws
1. 6.1 Removing cap -2- .
2. 6.2 Unscrew screw securing torque converter to drive plate -1- .
3. 6.3 Turn the engine further and repeat the procedure on all screws -1- .
Loosen ATF lines -1 and 2- on automatic transmission.

ATF lines
1. 7.1 Loosen screw on ATF lines -3- as far as required until the ATF lines -1 and 2- can be turned, but do not unscrew fully.
2. 7.2 Carefully turn ATF lines -1 and 2- into the connections until the threaded joint for the automatic transmission is accessible
Loosen the starter -1- .

Starter (shown without engine carrier)
1. 8.1 Screw -3- with a commercially available 3/8-inch flexible-head socket SW16¹⁾ be loosened and screwed out.
2. 8.2 Unscrew screw -2- , set the starter -1- down and remove gasket -5- .
  Replace screw during installation.

Automatic transmission with tool 3311
1. 9.1 Position > 3311 - hook and support tool on automatic transmission using > VAS 6100 - workshop crane , thread-in screw -Arrow- .
2. 9.2 Unscrew screws for automatic transmission -2 and 3- .
  Replace screws during installation.

  The help of a second mechanic is required for this.
