Disassembling Engine

Information 

Information 

For many components, it is only necessary to partially disassemble the engine. The extent of disassembly depends on the damage and scope of repairs to be carried out.

  1. Have suitable stoppers ready for closing off the line connections.
  2. Mark vacuum hoses so that they cannot get mixed up.
  3. Remove turbocharger.

    V6 monoturbo: 

    > Removing and installing turbocharger (V6 monoturbo) 

    V6 biturbo: 

    > Removing and installing turbocharger (V6 biturbo) 

  4. Remove high-pressure pump.

    > Removing and installing high-pressure pump (V6 Turbo) 

  5. Remove upper chain housing cover.

    > Removing and installing upper chain housing cover (V6 Turbo) 

  6. Remove ignition coils.

    > Removing and installing ignition coils (V6 Turbo) 

  7. Remove spark plugs.

    > Removing and installing spark plugs 

  8. Remove oil separator.

    > Removing and installing oil separator (V6 Turbo) 

  9. Remove oil filter housing.

    V6 monoturbo: 

    > Removing and installing oil filter housing (V6 monoturbo) 

    V6 biturbo: 

    > Removing and installing oil filter housing (V6 biturbo) 

  10. Remove oil/water heat exchanger.

    > Removing and installing oil/water heat exchanger (V6 Turbo) 

  11. Remove piston spray nozzle control valve.

    > Removing and installing piston spray nozzle control valve (V6 Turbo) 

  12. Remove fuel collection pipe.

    > Removing and installing fuel collection pipe (V6 Turbo) 

  13. Remove fuel injectors.

    > Removing and installing fuel injector 

  14. Remove solenoid hydraulic valves for valve lift adjustment.

    > Removing and installing solenoid hydraulic valve for valve lift adjustment 

  15. Remove tank vent valve.

    V6 monoturbo: 

    > Removing and installing tank vent valve (V6 monoturbo) 

    V6 biturbo: 

    > Removing and installing tank vent valve (V6 biturbo) 

  16. Remove drive belt.

    > Removing and installing drive belt (V6 Turbo) 

  17. Remove air-conditioning compressor.

    V6 Turbo: 

    > Removing and installing air conditioning compressor 

    V6 Hybrid: 

    > Removing and installing air conditioning compressor 

  18. Remove generator.

    > Removing and installing generator (V6 Turbo) 

  19. Remove air-conditioning compressor bracket -5-  .

    1. 19.1 Remove tensioning roller -3-  .
      1. 19.1.1 Carefully lever off dust boot -1-  using a suitable tool.
      2. 19.1.2 Unscrew screw on tensioning roller -2-  .
      3. 19.1.3 Remove tensioning roller -3-  .
    2. 19.2 Unscrew screws on air-conditioning compressor bracket -4-  .
    3. 19.3 Remove air-conditioning compressor bracket -5-  .
  20. Remove generator bracket -1-  .

    1. 20.1 Unscrew and remove screws -2-  .
    2. 20.2 Remove generator bracket -1-  .
  21. Remove deflection roller -1-  .

    1. 21.1 Carefully lever off dust boot -2-  using a suitable tool.
    2. 21.2 Unscrew screw on deflection roller -3-  .
    3. 21.3 Remove deflection roller -1-  .
  22. Remove crankshaft vibration damper.

    > Removing and installing crankshaft vibration damper (V6 Turbo) 

  23. Remove drive plate.

    > Removing and installing drive plate 

  24. Remove hall-sender rotor.

    > Removing and installing hall-sender rotor 

  25. Remove oil pressure control valve.

    > Removing and installing oil pressure control valve 

  26. Remove intake-air distributor.

    > Removing and installing intake-air distributor (V6 Turbo) 

  27. Remove oil pan.

    > Removing and installing oil pan (V6 Turbo) 

  28. Remove oil guide housing.

    > Removing and installing oil guide housing (V6 Turbo) 

  29. Remove oil pump.

    > Removing and installing oil pump (V6 Turbo) 

  30. Remove oil windage tray -2-  .

    1. 30.1 Unscrew screws for oil windage tray -1 and 3-  .
    2. 30.2 Remove oil windage tray -2-  from cylinder block.
  31. Remove lower chain housing cover.

    > Removing and installing lower chain housing cover (V6 Turbo) 

  32. Remove crankcase cover.

    > Removing and installing crankcase cover (V6 Turbo) 

  33. Remove coolant pump.

    > Removing and installing coolant pump (V6 Turbo) 

  34. Remove coolant regulator (thermostat insert).

    > Removing and installing coolant regulator (V6 Turbo) 

  35. Remove coolant control valve -3-  .

    Coolant control valve

    1. 35.1 Pull off vacuum hose -1-  .
    2. 35.2 Unscrew screws on coolant control valve -2-  and pull coolant control valve -3-  off the coolant pipe -4-  .
  36. Remove coolant flanges on left and right cylinder bank.

    1. 36.1 Remove screws -1 to 3-  .
    2. 36.2 Remove coolant flanges.
  37. Remove brake booster vacuum pump.

    V6 monoturbo: 

    > Removing and installing brake booster vacuum pump (V6 monoturbo) 

    V6 biturbo: 

    > Removing and installing brake booster vacuum pump (V6 biturbo) 

  38. Remove timing chain.

    > Removing and installing timing chain (V6 Turbo) 

  39. Remove chain tensioner.

    > Removing and installing chain tensioner 

  40. Remove guide and tensioning rails.

    > Removing and installing guide and tensioning rails (V6 Turbo) 

  41. Remove both cylinder head covers.

    > Removing and installing cylinder head cover (V6 Turbo) 

  42. Remove camshafts from the cylinder head covers.

    > Removing and installing camshaft (V6 Turbo) 

  43. Remove both cylinder heads.

    > Removing and installing cylinder head 

  44. Disassemble cylinder heads.
    1. 44.1 Remove valve lifters (hydraulic tappets).

      > Removing and installing valve lifters (hydraulic tappets) (V6 Turbo) 

    2. 44.2 Remove valves.

      > Removing and installing valves (V6 Turbo) 

    3. 44.3 Remove valve-stem seals.

    > Replacing valve-stem seals (V6 Turbo) 

  45. Remove balance shaft.

    > Removing and installing balance shaft (V6 Turbo) 

  46. Remove crankshaft.

    > Removing and installing crankshaft 

  47. Remove pistons and connecting rods.

    > Removing and installing pistons 

  48. Remove piston spray nozzles -2-  .

    1. 48.1 Unscrew screws on piston spray nozzles -1-  .
    2. 48.2 Remove piston spray nozzles -2-  .
  49. Remove knock sensor.
