Installing Wheel Electronics

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Every new set of wheels or wheel change must be communicated to the control unit. This is especially important when wheel positions have been interchanged.
    1. 1.1  For this purpose, always select the tyre type and tyre size in the instrument cluster under Tyre pressure → Tyre type. 
    2. 1.2  The control unit then learns the wheel positions again while the vehicle is moving.
  2. Clean the valve bore very carefully (visual inspection). 

    Information 

    When replacing the wheel electronics:

    • Always use completely new valves. 
    • Always use new bolts. 
  3. Fit the wheel electronics unit loosely at the valve with a new Torx screw -1-  (do not tighten) and position it in the valve bore together with the new valve.

    Information 

    • Counter at the new valve while fastening with an assembly pin (supplied with the new valve). 
    • This prevents the valve-end seal from turning and thus possible damage. 
  4. Fit the washer, chamfered on both sides, from outside and screw on the union nut until it is seated correctly.

    Wheel electronics mounting

    1. 4.1  Visibly screw in the bore at the valve foot and block it using the supplied assembly pin -2-  .
    2. 4.2  Tighten union nut.

      > Tightening torque 4 Nm (3 ftlb.) 

  5. Push the wheel electronics unit -1-  slightly into rim well (this adjusts the angle of inclination of valve to wheel electronics).

    Overview of wheel electronics

    Information 

    • Carry out the screw on the wheel electronics unit/valve evenly and in one turn. 
    • Do not interrupt the tightening process. 
    • Remove the assembly pin after tightening the components. 
  6. Tighten new (self-locking) Torx screw.

    > Tightening torque 4 Nm (3 ftlb.) 

    1. 6.1  The wheel electronics unit should now be lying evenly against the rim. Remove assembly pin.

      Information 

      The wheel electronics must not come into contact with tyre mounting paste or solvent.

  7. When mounting tyres, ensure absolute cleanliness around the wheel electronics unit.
