Removing Front Drive Shaft
- Risk of crushing
- Risk of damage to components
→ Wear personal protective gear.
→ Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).
Information
Threaded joints must only be tightened in zero position to prevent warping in the bearings.
- Installation is performed in reverse order. Pay particular attention to the following:
- 1.1 Before tightening the trailing arm screws: Lift the wheel suspension to zero position using lifting equipment (e.g. > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack
).
Zero position (shown on rear axle as an example)
- 1.2 Tighten new
screws on drive shaft -2-
.
M10 x 20:
> Initial tightening 50 Nm (37 ftlb.)
> Final tightening + 90°
M12 x 22:
> Initial tightening 90 Nm (67 ftlb.)
> Final tightening + 90°
Drive shaft
- 1.3 Tighten screws on drive shaft heat shield -2-
.
Heat shield to transmission, right:
> Tightening torque 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)
Heat shield to transmission, left:
> Tightening torque 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)
Drive shaft heat shield
- 1.4 Tighten new
nut securing control arm joint pin to wheel bearing housing -3-
.
> Tightening torque 140 Nm (103.3 ftlb.)
Control arm at wheel bearing housing
- 1.5 Tighten screws on heat protection panel -2-
.
Screws securing one-piece heat protection to front-axle carrier:
> Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.6 ftlb.)
Screws securing one-piece heat protection to longitudinal member:
> Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.) (6.6 ftlb.)
Screws securing two-piece heat protection to front-axle carrier:
> Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.6 ftlb.)
Screws securing upper part of two-piece heat protection to longitudinal member:
> Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.) (6.6 ftlb.)
Screws securing upper part of two-piece heat protection to lower part:
> Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.) (6.6 ftlb.)
