Bleeding The Brake System
- Open and remove cap on brake fluid reservoir.
Information
- Check brake fluid quality. Use only new Hydraulan 404 brake fluid.
- > VAS 6860 - Connect brake filling and bleeding equipment to the reservoir and switch on.
- Set the bleeding pressure to 2.0 bar.

- To check the escaping brake fluid, ensure absolute cleanliness and make sure there are no air bubbles.
- A transparent hose and a collecting bottle must be used to determine the amount of brake fluid used.

- Bleed the brake calliper at both bleeder valves.
- Bleed the outer bleeder valve first.
- Carry out the bleeding procedure on the brake callipers in the following sequence: rear right/rear left/front right/front left.
Tightening sequence: Outer bleeder screw first, then inner bleeder screw.

- 4.1 Connect hose of the collecting bottle to the bleeder valve.
- 4.2 Open bleeder screw -1- until clear, bubble-free brake fluid emerges.
- 4.3 Close the bleeder screw -1- .
- 4.4 Continue the bleeding procedure in the specified sequence until all 4 brake callipers have been bled.
- 4.5 Remove collecting bottle. Remove brake fluid residues from the components if necessary.
- Commission the electric brake booster using the PIWIS Tester
.
- 5.1 Connect the PIWIS Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
- 5.2 Start the diagnostic software.
- 5.3 Select brake booster control unit.
- 5.4 Select the Maintenance/repairs menu.
- 5.5 Press F12 to select the start-up function .
- 5.6 Follow the instructions on the PIWIS Tester .
Information
As soon as the brake system has been opened, the secondary circuit must also be bled on vehicles with electronic brake booster. This does not apply when you are just changing the brake fluid.

High brake fluid loss when bleeding:
- Make sure that there is sufficient brake fluid left (the reservoir must not run dry).
- Empty the collecting bottle after every bleeding procedure.

Press the brake pedal down fully about every 5 seconds.
- Bleed the secondary circuit using PIWIS Tester
.
- 6.1 Select 'Control unit overview' → 'Porsche Stability Management (PSM)' and press F12 to confirm.
- 6.2 Select 'Maintenance/repairs' → 'Service bleeding' and start the procedure.
- 6.3 Read the instructions displayed on PIWIS Tester and pay particular attention to the following:
- 6.3.1 Leave the > VAS 6860 - brake filling and bleeding equipment connected to the reservoir with 2.0 bar pressure.
- 6.3.2 Bleed the brake system at both bleeder screws on the brake callipers (Observe sequence shown on the PIWIS Tester! ). Keep pressing the brake pedal at the same time (get another person to help ).
- 6.3.3 Open each bleeder screw -1- until clear, bubble-free brake fluid emerges.
- 6.3.4 Screw in and tighten each bleeder screw -1- after bleeding the system.
Front bleeder valves (grey cast iron/PSCB): > Tightening torque 14 Nm (10.5 ftlb.)
Front bleeder valves (PCCB): > Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)
Rear bleeder valves (grey cast iron/PSCB): > Tightening torque 14 Nm (10.5 ftlb.)
Rear bleeder valves (PCCB): > Tightening torque 14 Nm (10.5 ftlb.)
Information
The brake fluid level in the reservoir must be between the MIN and MAX markings after bleeding the brake system.
- Remove > VAS 6860 - brake filling and bleeding equipment from the reservoir and correct the brake fluid level if necessary.
- Fit and lock cap on brake fluid reservoir.
- Switch on ignition and check brake pedal travel and pedal feel.
