The PIWIS Tester  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester. 

  1. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
  2. Select the vehicle type if necessary.
  3. Select the Transmission electronics (Tiptronic)  control unit ii the overview.  Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
  4. Select Coding/programming. 
  5. Select Automatic programming.  Press F12 to continue.
  6. Read and follow the instructions and information on the Tester. Press F12 to continue and then press F8 to start.
  7. The Tester displays the message: Programming was completed successfully. Press F12 to continue.
  8. Select Engine immobiliser commissioning.  Press F12 to continue.
  9. Read and follow the instructions and information on the Tester. Press F12 to continue.
  10. Perform engine immobiliser commissioning according to menu guidance.
  11. The Tester displays the message: Engine immobiliser commissioning completed successfully. Press F12 to continue.
  12. Read out the fault memory  and erase it if necessary.
  13. Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
  14. Lock, open and start the vehicle using all remote controls.
  15. Carry out a test drive. Read out the fault memory again after the test drive.

Subsequent work for diagnostic scopes 

Information 

  1. Only for R4:
    1. 1.1  Connect PIWIS Tester  to the vehicle.
    2. 1.2  Select Engine electronics (DME) control unit. 
    3. 1.3  Select Maintenance/Repairs  tab.
    4. 1.4  Perform sensor wheel  adaptation.
    5. 1.5  Follow the instructions on the PIWIS Tester. 
  2. Only for V6T and V8T:
    1. 2.1  Select Engine electronics (DME) control unit. 
    2. 2.2  Select Maintenance/Repairs  tab.
    3. 2.3  Perform Sensor wheel adaptation reset. 
    4. 2.4  Perform sensor wheel adaptation by performing an adaptation drive. 
      1. 2.4.1  Get a second person to check the PIWIS Tester  while you are driving.
      2. 2.4.2  Select Engine electronics (DME) control unit. 
      3. 2.4.3  Select the "Actual values/input signals"  tab.
      4. 2.4.4  Select the information "General". 
      5. 2.4.5  Select the actual value "Engine speed and engine torque". 
      6. 2.4.6  Select the "Misfiring"  information.
      7. 2.4.7  Observe actual value "Segment adaptation for rough running, status". 

        Value "0" = adapted and (value "2" = not adapted)

      8. 2.4.8  Perform adaptation drive until the actual value segment adaptation to running irregularity status  displays "0"  => Adaptation is complete. 

        This procedure must be carried out at least 11 x. 

      9. 2.4.9  Restore combustion engine to operating temperature.
      10. 2.4.10  Set "Normal" drive mode with "Manual" transmission mode in 2nd gear.
      11. 2.4.11  Engine speed => 1600 and 2400 rpm.
      12. 2.4.12  Generate a minimal load (50 to 150 Nm/37 to 111 ftlb.) => slight acceleration or speed for at least three seconds each.
      13. 2.4.13  Overrun phase (accelerator pedal not pressed, no fuel injection) for at least two seconds each.
