Re-Programming The Trailer Hitch Control Unit

Information 

Ensure the consistency of a combination of hardware and software versions 

After performing software updates, always make sure that the target software versions are also actually installed on the control units and that the system is therefore ensured.

This also applies in the case of hardware replacement.

Information 

The PIWIS Tester  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester  .

Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.

Select the vehicle type if necessary.

Select the trailer hitch  control unit in the overview  . Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.

Select Coding/programming  .

Select Automatic coding  . Press F12 to continue.

The tester displays the message: Coding successfully performed.

Vehicles with electrically extendable trailer hitch, continue with Step 6.

For vehicles without electrically extendable trailer hitch, continue with Step 9.

Select Drive links checks  .

Trailer hitch  must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.

Trailer hitch calibration  must be selected. Press F12 to continue.

Read and follow the information and instructions on the Tester. Press F8 to start.

Go back to the Overview  .

Read out all fault memories  , process and delete existing faults if necessary.

Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.

Carry out a function test.
