Installing Coil Spring

Information 

When installing the coil spring, make sure that the sticker -1-  on the coil spring is facing upwards.

Information 

• If the coil spring is replaced: Always replace coil springs in pairs only. 
• Due to the settling behavior and indents, use new spring plates to replace the coil springs. 

1. Insert coil spring into the hydraulic clamping device VAS 6907/9.

   Marking (left, as an example)

   1. 1.1 Left coil spring: 

      Fit underside of end of spring in the spring tensioning system at marking "L".

      Right coil spring: 

      Fit underside of end of spring in the spring tensioning system at marking "R".

   2. 1.2  Use the > VAS 6179 - foot pump  to tension the coil spring in the hydraulic clamping device so that the pressure plates can be inserted.
2. Tension the coil spring using pressure plates.

   Coil spring with pressure plates

   1. 2.1  Insert pressure plate with latch -1-  and pressure plate with pivot bearing -2-  into the coil spring in such a way that 3 windings are enclosed.
   2. 2.2  Insert piston -4-  into pressure plate with latch -1-  Use T-bar wrench VAS 6907/6  as an aid if necessary.
   3. 2.3  Press locking lever in -Arrow direction-  to secure the piston.

   4. 2.4  Insert spindle -3-  .
   5. 2.5  Screw pressure plates -1.2-  together.
   6. 2.6  Tension coil spring using socket wrench VAS6907/5. 
3. Relieve tension on the hydraulic clamping device VAS6907/9  and remove coil spring with clamping device.
4. Insert coil spring with spring plates at the top and bottom.

   Spring plate, lower

   1. 4.1  Insert lower spring plate -1-  with pin in bore on the lower trailing arm -2-  .
   2. 4.2  Screw coil spring up to the anchor block into the lower spring plate.
5. Relieve tension on the coil spring > Coil spring with spring compressor  (counter at the holding wrench) and remove pressure plates.

6. Spreader device VAS 6274/12-4 -1-  must be relieved and removed.
