Replacing Gateway Control Unit (Vehicles With Control Unit - External Communication)

NOTIFICATION 

Voltage drop 

• Irreparable damage to control unit 
• Damage to control unit 
• Fault entries in the control unit 
• Control unit programming/coding is aborted 
• Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming 
  1. Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.
  2. Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.
  3. Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A  to the vehicle battery.

Information 

If the Gateway  control unit is programmed, ensure a charging voltage of 14.0 - 14.2 V  at the Gateway control unit. Adjust the charger's voltage if necessary. When programming is complete, reset the charger's voltage.

Before installing the new control unit, the control unit specifications must be documented/photographed.

If a problem occurs while teaching/activating the control unit following installation, you will need the control unit specifications for the Hotline.

Ensure the consistency of a combination of hardware and software versions 

After performing software updates, always make sure that the target software versions are also actually installed on the control units and that the system is therefore ensured.

This also applies in the case of hardware replacement.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester. 

1. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
2. Place original remote control in emergency start tray.

3. Select the vehicle type if necessary.
4. Select the Gateway  control unit in the Overview.  Press F12 to continue.

   Should a "Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)" to created? Press F11 to continue.

5. Select Coding/programming. 
6. Automatic programming  must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
   1. 6.1  The tester displays the message: Coding successfully performed.
7. Switch back to the Overview  menu.
8. In the Overview,  press F7 to select the Additional menu. 
9. Select the Commission component protection  function in the Additional menu. 
   1. 9.1  Follow instructions and procedure.
   2. 9.2  Teach component protection in accordance with menu guidance.
   3. 9.3  The tester displays the message: Component protection taught.
10. Select Enabling functions.  Press F12 to continue.
    1. 10.1  Select Update functions.  Press F12 to continue.
    2. 10.2  Read and follow the instructions and indications on the tester.
    3. 10.3  Execute the activation menu-guided.
11. Switch back to the Overview  menu.
12. Select the Gateway  control unit in the Overview. 
13. Select Maintenance/repairs. 
14. Battery replacement  must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
    1. 14.1  Read and follow the instructions and information on the Tester.
    2. 14.2  Teach battery in accordance with menu guidance.
15. Teach combination sensor.
    1. 15.1  Select the Airbag  control unit in the Overview.  Press F12 to continue.
    2. 15.2  Select Maintenance/repairs. 
    3. 15.3 Calibrate combination sensor  must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
    4. 15.4  Read and follow the warning notes and instructions on the Tester.

    Vehicles with emergency call function: continue with Step 16  .

    Vehicles without emergency call function: continue with Step  20.

16. Check whether emergency call button LED lights up in the roof console.
    1. 16.1  Emergency call button LED lights up green: Continue with Step  20.
    2. 16.2  Emergency call button LED lights up red: Continue with Step 17  .
17. Select the Connect  control unit in the Overview.  Press F12 to continue.
18. Select Drive links checks. 
19. Connection set-up  must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
    1. 19.1  Read and follow the instructions and information on the Tester.
    2. 19.2  Establish connection in accordance with menu guidance.
    3. 19.3  Emergency call button LED lights up green.
    4. 19.4  If the connection setup fails (emergency call button LED remains red): Create a ticket in the PCSS.
20. Read out all fault memories,  process and delete existing faults if necessary.
21. Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
