Adjusting Matrix Led Headlights
NOTIFICATION
Voltage drop
- Irreparable damage to control unit
- Damage to control unit
- Fault entries in the control unit
- Control unit programming/coding is aborted
- Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming/coding
→ Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.
→ Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.
→ Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A to the vehicle battery.
Information
On vehicles with air suspension, set the chassis height to Normal level (MEDIUM HEIGHT) .
Information
Headlights that are not adjusted correctly at the sides, particularly MXB headlights, can have a considerable dazzling effect.

Use > VAS 5208A - Headlight aiming device or > VAS 621 001 - Headlight adjusting unit for adjusting the Matrix LED headlights.

Only for C02 and C36 (USA and Canada) vehicles: Lateral adjustment of the headlights is not permitted. The adjusting screw is blocked by a seal.
Information
Check the following when adjusting the headlight:
- Vehicle and headlight aiming device must be standing on a level surface .
- Vehicle must not be loaded and the tyre pressure must comply with the specified values .
- Steering in straight-ahead position .
- Headlight adjustment is performed with the ignition switched on .
- Adjusting tool: 6 mm external hexagon (without ball joint) .

The PIWIS Tester instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.
The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester .
- Align headlight aiming device parallel to the vehicle and position it with respect to the centre axis and height of the dipped beam headlight.
- Switch on ignition and turn on dipped beam headlights.
- Open the engine compartment lid to activate adjustment light distribution automatically.
Not for C02 and C36 (USA and Canada) vehicles. Continue with Step 5
- Only for C02 and C36 (USA and Canada) vehicles:
Adjustment light distribution does not need to be activated for height adjustment.
MATRIX LED headlights
- 4.1 Open the engine compartment lid and activate adjustment light distribution manually using the Tester.
- 4.2 Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
- 4.3 Select the vehicle type if required.
- 4.4 Select the Assistance systems control unit in the overview . Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
- 4.5 Drive links/checks must be selected.
- 4.6 Matrix LED headlights must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
- 4.7 Activation of Matrix LED headlights adjustment light for USA/Canada must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
- 4.8 Read and follow the instructions and information on the Tester. Press F8 to start.
- Adjust headlights.

Then, adjust nominal value from bottom to top.

Only for C02 and C36 (USA and Canada) vehicles: > Adjustment value -0.2 % +/- 0.2 %

- 6.1 Check whether adjusting screw seal is set.
- 6.2 If the seal is lost or damaged, replace it.
