Removing Brake Master Cylinder

Installation position of brake master cylinder Information

When carrying out work during which fluids can escape, leave electric plug connections to be disconnected locked and connected for as long as possible. This prevents fluid from getting onto electric contacts and causing corrosion

  1. Only for vehicles with manual transmission:  Disconnect brake fluid hoses -1-  . going to the clutch cylinder from the brake fluid reservoir -2-  .
    1. 1.1  Mark brake fluid hoses -1-  clearly to avoid confusion
    2. 1.2  Place suitable material underneath to collect emerging brake fluid, e.g. clean, absorbent cloths.
    3. 1.3  Have suitable stoppers ready for closing off the brake fluid hoses -1-  .
    4. 1.4  Loosen clamps fusing a suitable tool, pull off brake fluid hoses -1-  and close them off with stoppers.
    5. 1.5  Clean off any escaping brake fluid immediately using suitable cleaning aids.

      Wash affected components again with water and dry them.

      Brake fluid reservoir on vehicles with manual transmission

  2. Mark brake lines -2-  . and the relevant connections on the brake master cylinder -2-  . clearly to avoid confusion.
  3. Place suitable material underneath to collect emerging brake fluid, e.g. clean, absorbent cloths.
  4. Have suitable stoppers ready for closing off the brake lines -2-  . and bores on the brake master cylinder -2-  .
  5. Remove brake lines -2-  . from the brake master cylinder -2-  .
    1. 5.1  Unscrew and remove cap screws -1-  . on brake lines -2-  .
    2. 5.2  Pull brake lines -2-  . out of the bores on the brake master cylinder -3-  and close off openings on brake lines -2-  . and on the brake master cylinder -3-  immediately using stoppers.
    3. 5.3  Clean off any escaping brake fluid immediately using suitable cleaning aids. Wash affected components again with water and dry them.

  6. Unscrew and remove fastening screw -2-  .

    Information 

    Brake fluid - even thinned brake fluid - causes corrosion on electric contacts, thereby impairing functions.

  7. Release and disconnect electric plug connections -3 and 4-  and protect them from brake fluid and other contaminants using appropriate means, e.g. a plastic bag.
  8. Tilt brake fluid reservoir -1-  . down towards the front of the vehicle -arrow A-  .

  9. Screw off fastening nuts -1-  .
  10. Carefully remove brake master cylinder -2-  together with brake fluid reservoir -3-  from the brake booster -4-  .

  11. Only when replacing the brake master cylinder:  Remove brake fluid reservoir
