Assembly And Component Overview

Rear spring strut

No. Designation Qty. Removal Installation
1 Lock nut M14x1.5 1 Before loosening the lock nut -1-  , pre-tension the coil spring -9-  using > V.A.G 1752/1 - Spring clamp  until the piston rod is relieved. Use a new lock nut. > Tightening torque 70 Nm (51.6 ftlb.) + 5 Nm (3.7 ftlb.) 
Position spring-strut mount -3-  with respect to the shock absorber -10- before tightening the lock nut.

2 Stop plate 1   Fit dome upwards, towards lock nut.
3 Spring-strut mount 1   Position with respect to shock absorber.
This is described in the Assembly article.
4 Centring ring 1   Two types are available (3 mm and 6 mm).
Observe allocation, depending on coil spring load group.
Fit at the correct position on the spring-strut mount -3-  .
This is described in the Assembly article.
5 Spring plate 1   Replace if damaged.
6 Stop plate 1   Fit dome downwards.
7 Rubber stop 1   Replace if damaged.
8 Boot for shock absorber 1   Replace if damaged.
Fit on rubber stop -7-  .
9 Coil spring     Observe allocation as per Spare Parts Information, Replace coil springs only in pairs.
It may be necessary to replace the centring rings (different thicknesses) -4-  .
The thickness of the centring rings depends on the coil spring load group.

10 Shock absorber 1 Do not damage connecting cable (electric line) on the PASM version. Observe allocation as per Spare Parts Information.
The item number is shown on the damper tube.
