Removing Rear-Axle Carrier Side Section

Installation position of the rear-axle carrier side section
Information
- The rear brake calliper must be removed so that the brake hose does not become strained or damaged on wheel suspension parts during assembly work.
- Do not open the brake hydraulic system (brake line remains connected).
- Remove rear brake calliper with line bracket.
Holder on wheel bearing housing
- 1.1 Release and unplug electric plug connection for electric parking brake (EPB) -1- and unclip it from the cable retainer -2- .
- 1.2 Release and disconnect electric plug connection for rpm sensor -3- .
- 1.3 Unscrew and remove fastening screws -6- securing holder to wheel bearing housing.

Evenly set back brake pads a little using water pump pliers.
Information
Never use power tools (impact bolter) for loosening and securing the brake calliper on the wheel bearing housing.

Unscrew and remove fastening screws -arrows-

Fastening screws on brake calliper
- 1.6 Remove the brake calliper together with the holder from the wheel bearing housing and hang it at a suitable position, e.g. using a piece of wire, in the wheel housing. Make sure that the brake pressure line is not strained.
- Loosen threaded joint -1-

Diagonal arm mounting
- Remove toe control arm and lower trailing arm.

Screw off fastening nuts -1-

Loosening tie rod and lower trailing arm
- 3.2 Pull off tie rod -2- using a puller > 9560 - Press-out tool-4- on the wheel bearing housing.
- 3.3 Pull off tower trailing arm -3- using a puller > 9560 - Press-out tool-4- on the wheel bearing housing.

Mark basic position at the eccentric threaded joints on the rear-axle carrier side section.
Camber and toe eccentric adjuster
- 3.5 Remove eccentric threaded joints for the tie rod -2- and lower trailing arm -1- on the rear-axle carrier side section and remove tie rod and tower trailing arm.

Screw off fastening nuts -1-

- Support the engine at the oil pan using > VAS 6931 - Transmission and Engine Jack.
- Screw off two fastening nuts -1-
on the transmission mount -3-

Bracket on transmission mount
- Undo fastening nut -1-
, unscrew fastening screw -2 and remove rear-axle carrier side section -3-
in a downward direction.
Bracket on body
Replace fastening screw/-2-
