Installing Rear-Axle Carrier Side Section

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

Information 

The press-in screws on the rear-axle carrier side section must be free of grease and oil residues! Check press-in screws before installation and clean them if necessary.

  1. Position rear-axle carrier side section -3-  in installation position on body, screw on fastening nut -1-  . screw in and tighten new fastening screw -2-  .

    Fastening nut -1-  :> Tightening torque 65 Nm (47.9 ftlb.) 

    Fastening screw -2-  : > initial tightening 30 Nm (22.1 ftlb.)  > final tightening + 90° 

  2. Screw on and tighten two fastening nuts -1-  on to the transmission mount -3-  > Tightening torque 33 Nm (24.3 ftlb.)

  3. Install tie rod and lower trailing arm.

    Information 

    Following installation, seal the threaded joint securing tie rod to wheel bearing housing with wax as shown in -Illustration-  .

    Use Pfinder AP14/4 for this (see PIWIS Parts Information - PET)

    1. 3.1  Fit tie rod -2-  and lower trailing arm -3-  on the wheel bearing housing and screw on and tighten fastening nuts -1-  .

      Fastening nut for tie rod: > Tightening torque 85 Nm (62.7 ftlb.) 

      Fastening nut for lower trailing arm: > Tightening torque 120 Nm (88.5 ftlb.) 

    2. 3.2  Install eccentric threaded joints for the tie rod -2 and lower trailing arm -1-  on the rear-axle carrier side section and move them to the basic position marked during removal.

      Camber and toe eccentric adjuster

      The eccentric threaded joints will be tightened to the required tightening torque during subsequent chassis adjustment.

  4. Tighten threaded joint -1-  for the diagonal arm -3-  > Tightening torque 160 Nm (118 ftlb.)

  5. Install rear brake calliper with line bracket

    Information 

    • Brake calliper screws can always be re-used if no damage can be identified. 
    • Replace damaged bolts. 
    • Observe different tightening specifications! 
    1. 5.1  Fit brake calliper together with the holder and screw in and tighten new brake calliper fastening screws -Arrows-  . > Tightening torque 85 Nm (62.7 ftlb.)

    2. 5.2  Screw in and tighten fastening screws -6-  securing holder to wheel bearing housing. > Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)

    3. 5.3  Plug in and lock electric plug connection on the rpm sensor -3-  .
    4. 5.4  Plug in and lock electric plug connection for electric parking brake (EPB) -1-  and clip the line into the cable retainer -2-  .
