Installing Oxygen Sensor Downstream Of Catalytic Converter

NOTIFICATION
Incorrect handling of oxygen sensors
- Damage to oxygen sensors
- Different exhaust emission behaviour
- → Do not remove the plastic cap on the thread until just prior to fitting.
- → Protect oxygen sensors from impact of any kind.
- → Do not kink or twist the cables when screwing in the sensors.
- → Do not re-use dirty or damaged components.
Information
- When re-installing oxygen sensors, only grease the thread with lubricant (see PET).
- Make sure that the lubricant does not get into the slits in the sensor body.
- New oxygen sensors have already been greased and the thread is fitted with a protection cap.
Recommended tools
- > V.A.G 1331A - Torque wrench, 6-50 Nm/4.5-37 ftlb. - suitable for 3/8-inch ratchet head
- >VAS 6947 - Ring Socket Insert, a/f 13
- >3337 - Ring wrench set for oxygen sensor , a/f 22 mm
- Install oxygen sensor downstream of catalytic converter.
- 1.1 Coat the thread with high-temperature grease (see Spare Parts Information).
- 1.2 Screw in oxygen sensor and tighten to > Tightening torque 50 Nm (37 ftlb.) +/- 8 Nm (6 ftlb.) .
- 1.3 Tightening torque using recommended tool:
Screw in oxygen sensor and tighten to > Tightening torque using the prescribed tool 46 Nm (34 ftlb.) .
- 1.4 Connect electric plug connection and secure connector housing in holder.
- 1.5 Fit tie-wrap at the coolant line.
- Vehicles with particle filter:
Secure differential pressure sensor lines -1 -.
- 2.1 Position differential pressure sensor lines -1 - and fit union nuts -4 -, but do not tighten yet.
- 2.2 Fit and tighten screw for differential pressure sensor lines -3

> Tightening torque 6 Nm (4.5 ftlb.)
- 2.3 Tighten union nuts -4

> Tightening torque 12 Nm (9 ftlb.)
> Torque angle + 90°
- Vehicles with particle filter:
Fit and tighten nuts -1 - on differential pressure sensor lines -2 -.
> Tightening torque 6 Nm (4.5 ftlb.)
