Installing Fuel Collection Pipe

WARNING:
Highly inflammable or explosive materials
- Danger of fire or explosion
- → Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.
- → Use suction to remove ignitable vapours.
- → Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.
- → Contain leaked media using non-flammable absorbent material and put it in a container designed for this purpose for disposal in accordance with local requirements.
- → Secure collection containers/vessels to prevent them from tipping over.
NOTIFICATION
Dirt and contamination
- Risk of damage to units or components
- → Protect components from dirt and contamination.
- → Clean or replace dirty components.
Information
- Always perform a leak test in the high-pressure area after opening the fuel system.
- This is particularly important if components are disassembled and replaced.
- Coat threaded connections and fuel line cones with Microgleit DF977S lubricant (Part No. 000.043.209.35).
- Allow components to dry off for at least 15 minutes!
- Blow residual fuel out of the lines and high-pressure pump (into a fuel-resistant container or cloth) using compressed air before installation.
- The tightening specifications must be strictly observed.
Information
- Make sure that new spring clamps and O-rings are fitted on the fuel injectors.
- Insert new O-rings and spring clamp -2
- on the fuel injector -1

- 1.1 Coat O-rings with new engine oil.
- Install fuel injectors.
- Install fuel collection pipe with new screws.
- 3.1 Coat mountings for inner fuel injector lightly with new engine oil.
- 3.2 Place fuel collection pipe on the fuel injectors and spring clamps and press on evenly.
- 3.3 Fit and tighten new screws.
> Tightening torque 13 Nm (9.5 ftlb.)
- Coat thread on fuel collection pipe, union nut and cones with Microgleit DF977S.
Allow them to dry off for at least 15 minutes!
- Fit union nut -1
- by hand and tighten using an open-ended wrench -3

Recommended tools for tightening union nut:
- > VAS 6951 - Universal joint or flexible extension from > 9490 - socket wrench
- >V.A.G 1331/6 - Open-jawed wrench insert, a/f 17
- Tighten union nut -1

> Tightening torque 25 Nm (19 ftlb.)
