Installing Bellows For Steering-Gear Housing

  1. Fit bellows on tie rod and steering-gear housing. Check that the bellows is seated perfectly.

    Secure the bellows with a new clamp and spring band clamp.

    1. 1.1  Position the bellows on the tie rod

      Fit spring band clamp -arrow-  using > VAS 6889 - Spring Band Clamp Pliers  .

    2. 1.2  Slide the bellows as far as it will go into the steering-gear housing.

      Position a new clamp -arrow-  in such a way that you can reach it easily in order to tighten it.

    3. 1.3  > V.A.G 1275A - Hose clip pliers  or > VAS 6199A - Clamping pliers  must be fitted on the clamp lug -arrow-  and pretensioned slightly.

      Check the position of the clamp again, adjust it if necessary, and then tighten it (press the clamp lug together).
