Removing Front Wheel Bearing Housing

Information
- If assembly work was performed or parts were replaced that affect the vehicle height, complete suspension alignment is necessary.
- Protect electric lines when removing and installing the spring strut on vehicles with PASM.
- Do not lift/transport the spring strut/vibration damper at the electric line.
- The ignition must be switched off before disconnecting the plug connection (PASM) for the spring strut.
- The spring strut and wheel bearing housing are removed from the vehicle together.
- A helper is needed in order to take out the spring strut/wheel bearing housing.
- Remove connecting link from anti-roll bar.
Lower connecting link mounting
- 1.1 Unscrew fastening nut -1- To unscrew the fastening nut, counter with a > 9546 - screwdriver at the ball-joint pin.
- 1.2 Remove ball-joint pin from the bore in the anti-roll bar.
- Loosen ball joint on the level sensor linkage -1-
from the lower trailing arm.

- Loosen control arm spoiler (air guide for brake cooling] on the lower trailing arm and turn it up.

- Remove tie rod from wheel bearing housing.

- 4.1 Unscrew lock nut and use a > 9546 - screwdriver to counter at the ball-joint pin,
- 4.2 Coat the bellows and press-out tool with tire mounting paste to prevent damage to the bellows on the ball joint.
- 4.3 Press off tie-rod ball joint using > 9560- press-out tool-1-
- Remove lower trailing arm from the wheel bearing housing.

- 5.1 Coat the bellows and press-out tool with tire mounting paste to prevent damage to the bellows on the ball joint.
- 5.2 Unscrew fastening nut on the ball joint of the lower trailing arm -1- and press off the ball joint using > 9560 - press-out tool-2- .
- Disconnect plug connection for PASM in -holder-

- Remove upper spring strut from the body.

- 7.1 Mark installation position of the fastening nuts -1 to 3-.
- 7.2 Screw off fastening nuts -1 to 0.3- .
- Remove spring strut with wheel bearing housing.
- Loosen clamped connection securing spring strut to wheel bearing housing.
- 9.1 Carefully secure the wheel bearing housing on a work bench.

- 9.2.1 Screw off fastening nut -2- and counter at the hexagon -arrow- on the connecting link.
- 9.3 Remove spring strut from wheel bearing housing.
