General Information: Purpose

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

The wheel suspension can sustain various kinds of damage in an accident. In cases where components show no external damage, it can sometimes be difficult and costly to detect damage. Nevertheless, this damage represents an unacceptable risk for the vehicle because it can result in failure of the wheel suspension system.

A comprehensive check on all individual parts of the wheel suspension is not usually feasible due to the relatively high cost or is not possible using ordinary workshop resources. Instead, consideration must be given to the condition of other components that are easier to check.

To decide whether the wheel suspension of a vehicle involved in an accident must be replaced or may continue to be used, the following guidelines are helpful.
