Remove Engine

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. > VAS 6832 - Master Gear unit elevating platform  with > VAS 6832/6 - Assembly fixture - Boxster  must be prepared for removing the engine.

    > 1001IN TOOLS FOR REMOVING/INSTALLING UNITS AND WORKING ON ASSEMBLY SUPPORT .

    1. 1.1 Observe installation position.

      1. > VAS 6832 - Master Gear unit elevating platform 
      2. >VAS 6832/6 - Assembly fixture - Boxster 
      3. Take-up ram for engine
      4. Locks for mounting plate on lifting platform
      5. Take-up ram for chassis components
      6. Side lock
    2. 1.2 Mounting mandrel -1-  in the ram with thread.

      When adapting to the installation position of the units, unscrew only as far as the second marking -arrow-  !

  2. Position elevating platform under engine/transmission unit.
    1. 2.1 The tilt angle of the elevating platform plate can be changed to suit the installation position of the engine/transmission unit.
    2. 2.2 Align the support dome of the retainer plate to the jacking points -1-  .
    3. 2.3 Position a suitable support under the transmission.

  3. Support the engine/transmission unit slightly with the elevating platform.
  4. For safety reasons, the vehicle must be secured with a tension strap (> 9454 - Strapping belts  ) -1-  on the lifting platform -2-  .

    Cover painted components with protective cover(s) -3-  !

  5. Unscrew screws -1-  and collar nuts -3-  on the side panels -2-  .
    1. 5.1 Replace screws and collar nuts!

  6. Unscrew collar nuts -1-  on the engine mount brackets -2-  .

    NOTIFICATION 

    Engine/transmission unit lowered or inserted incorrectly. 

    • Risk of damage to engine/transmission unit 
    • Cables and coolant hoses can be stretched and torn 
      • → Gradually lower or raise the engine.
      • → Always check that all necessary cables were disconnected when lowering the engine/transmission unit.
      • → Make sure that no cables or hoses are damaged when fitting the engine/transmission unit.
      • → Get one or two more persons to help.
  7. Lower the engine/transmission unit slightly with the elevating platform.

    Vehicles with manual transmission: 

  8. Pull off shift mechanism holder -1-  . Unscrew collar nut -2-  to do this.

  9. Pull off guide -1-  for shift linkage.

  10. Remove clutch slave cylinder.

    > 303019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER .

    1. 10.1 Unclip line from the holder -arrow-  .
    2. 10.2 Unscrew screw -2-  and pull off clutch slave cylinder -1-  .

  11. Secure the clutch slave cylinder with a tie-wrap.
  12. Lower the engine/transmission unit.

    Check for constrictions on the air conditioning lines and oil filling hose! 

    Avoid contact by carefully moving the elevating platform forwards and backwards! 

    1. 12.1 The help of a second person is required during the lowering process in order to prevent damage and collisions.
  13. Following removal: Fit spring clamps at the connection points on the coolant hoses and check correct position!
