Cylinder Head

Cylinder head

  1. Cylinder head
  2. Cylinder-head gasket - replace
  3. Chain case screws, M6 x 25 (cylinder bank 3-4, one M6 x 65 screw)
  4. Cylinder head screw, internal Torx M12 x 1.5 x 140
  5. Valve lift adjustment valve
  6. O-ring - replace
  7. Screw, M5 x 12 > Tightening torque 8 Nm (6 ftlb.)

Phase sensor to cylinder head Internal Torx, M6 x 14 - always replace Tightening torque 4 Nm (3 ftlb.)  
Phase sensor to cylinder head Internal Torx, M6 x 14 - always replace Torque angle 60°  
Stopper for pressurized oil bore on cylinder head M12 x 1.5 Tightening torque 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)  
Stopper for pressure oil filling on cylinder head M12 x 1.5 Tightening torque 25 Nm (19 ftlb.) +/- 2.5 Nm (2 ftlb.)
Stopper for pressurized oil bore M10 x 1 (6.8) Tightening torque 12 Nm (9 ftlb.)  
Ground strap to cylinder head 3-4 Torx screw, M8 x 20 (10.9) Tightening torque 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)  
Ground strap to body Screw, M8 Tightening torque 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)  
Bearing pin for guide and tensioning rails Hexagon socket M6 x 12 (10.9) Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)  
Chain tensioner M22 x 1.5; replace sealing ring Tightening torque 80 Nm (59 ftlb.)  
Vacuum line to vacuum pump and crankcase M6 x 14 Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)

Tightening sequence for cylinder head, cyl. 1-2 and cyl. 3-4

1-6  Screw, internal Torx M12 x 1.5 x 140 > Initial tightening 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)  > Tightening torque 50 Nm (37 ftlb.)  > Loosen all screws 0 Nm (0 ftlb.)  > Initial tightening 4 Nm (3 ftlb.)  > Subsequent tightening 12 Nm (9 ftlb.)  > Torque angle 65°  > Torque angle 60°  > Final tightening torque angle 65°  > Final tightening torque angle 60°

item 1-6 on cylinder head 1-2  Screws, M6 x 25 - observe tightening sequence > Initial tightening 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)  > Torque angle 45° 

item 1 on cylinder head 3-4  Screw, M6 x 65 > Initial tightening 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)  > Torque angle 70° 

item 2-6 on cylinder head 3-4  Screws, M6 x 25 - observe tightening sequence > Initial tightening 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)  > Torque angle 45°

  2. Screw, M8 x 35 > Tightening torque 33 Nm (24 ftlb.) 
  3. Screw, M8 x 45 > Tightening torque 33 Nm (24 ftlb.) 
  4. Screw, M8 x 110 > Tightening torque 33 Nm (24 ftlb.) 
  5. Screw, M8 x 125 > Tightening torque 33 Nm (24 ftlb.)
