Assembly Overview - Camshafts

Camshafts, bearing cover:

Camshafts/cylinder head

  1. Intake camshaft
  2. Outlet camshaft
  3. Dowel sleeve, upper 7 x 11
  4. Bearing cover
  5. Screw, M6 x 38 - observe tightening sequence> Initial tightening 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)  > Torque angle 50° 
  6. Screw, M6 x 38 or M6 x 70 - observe tightening sequence> Initial tightening 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)  > Torque angle 90°  > Initial tightening 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)  > Torque angle 50° 
  7. Camshaft bearing saddle
  8. Dowel sleeve, 6 x 25
  9. Lower part of bearing saddle (only for cylinder head 3-4)
  10. Lower dowel sleeve (observe different size compared to item 3)
  11. Tappets for high-pressure pump

Camshafts:

Camshafts/camshaft controllers

  1. Friction plate - always replace> Final tightening torque angle 40° +/- 5° 
  2. Hexagon sleeve - always replace
  3. Central screw, M12 x 110 for camshaft controller> Initial tightening 30 Nm (22 ftlb.) +/- 1 Nm (0.5 ftlb.) 
  4. Sealing ring
  5. Actuator for camshaft control on intake side
  6. Actuator for camshaft control on outlet side
  7. Aluminium screw, M6 x 14 - always replace> Initial tightening 4 Nm (3 ftlb.)  > Final tightening torque angle 60°
