Installing Cylinder Head

NOTIFICATION
Dirt and contamination
- Risk of damage to units or components
- → Protect components from dirt and contamination.
- → Clean or replace dirty components.
- Fit new cylinder-head gasket. Check that the dowel sleeves are installed correctly.
- Carefully place cylinder head in position.
Information
- The tightening sequence must be strictly observed.
- Install cylinder head. Fit and tighten M12 screws according to specifications.
- Step 1: > Initial tightening 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)
- Step 2: > Tightening torque 50 Nm (37 ftlb.)
- Step 3: > Loosen all screws 0 Nm (0 ftlb.)
- Step 4: > Initial tightening 4 Nm (3 ftlb.)
- Step 5: > Subsequent tightening 12 Nm (9 ftlb.)
- Step 6 - Screws -1 and 2- : > Torque angle 65°
- Step 7 - Screws -3 to 6- : > Torque angle 60°
- Step 8 - Screws -1 and 2- : > Final tightening torque angle 65°
- Step 9 - Screws -3 to 6- : > Final tightening torque angle 60°
After final tightening, the screws -1 and 2- are tightened to a 130° torque angle and the screws -3 to 6- are tightened to a 120° torque angle!
Tightening sequence for cylinder head, cyl. 1-2 and cyl. 3-4
- Fit and tighten screws in the chain housing according to specifications.
- 4.1 Cylinder head 1-2, screw M6 x 25:
> Initial tightening 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)
Final tightening: > Torque angle 45°
- 4.2 Cylinder head 3-4, screw M6 x 65 -1 (right illustration)-
: > Initial tightening 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)
Final tightening: > Torque angle 70°
- 4.3 Cylinder head 3-4, screw M6 x 25:
> Initial tightening 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)
Final tightening: > Torque angle 45°
Tightening sequence for chain case screws, cyl. 1-2 (left illustration) and cyl. 3-4 (right illustration)
- 4.1 Cylinder head 1-2, screw M6 x 25:
> Initial tightening 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)
- Coat hydraulic tappets with new engine oil and insert in original installation position.
