Draining The Fuel Tank Using PIWIS Tester 3

Highly inflammable or explosive materials
- Danger of fire or explosion

- → Use suction to remove ignitable vapours.
- → Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.
- → Contain leaked media using non-flammable absorbent material and put it in a container designed for this purpose for disposal in accordance with local requirements.
- → Secure collection containers/vessels to prevent them from tipping over.

- → If you do come into contact, wash off immediately with plenty of warm water and contact a doctor if necessary.

- The battery voltage must not fall below 12.5 volts during the delivery rate/pressure check.

The fuel tank can be drained completely by selecting the method using > 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3 .

Watch out for emerging fuel when disconnecting fuel lines. Place a clean cloth on the connection point, then loosen the connection.
- Connect a battery charger.
- Attach or mount a warning sign in a clearly visible position on the vehicle.
- Relieve fuel pressure in the system.
- 3.1 Remove cover on the fuse carrier in the passenger compartment at the front left.
- 3.2 Pull out the fuse -2 - for the fuel pump.
- 3.3 Start the engine, wait until it cuts out and then re-insert the fuse -2 -.
- Remove rear underbody cover.

- Remove fuel low-pressure line at the underbody.
- 5.1 Place a cloth underneath the connection point for the fuel low-pressure line.
- 5.2 Open plug-in coupling -1 - for fuel low-pressure line -double arrow- .
- 5.3 Open the line bracket -4
- and pull off fuel low-pressure line.CAUTION: Residual pressure can cause fuel to spray out! Wear protective goggles.
- Fit connecting line consisting of connecting line no. 18 from VAG 1318
and the long line from the two > P378c - Connecting lines
on the fuel low-pressure line.
Make sure that the plug-in coupling is fitted securely (it must lock with an audible click).
- Guide the end of the connecting line into a suitable fuel container in order to collect emerging fuel.
Secure the container to prevent it from falling over.
You may have to have several fuel containers ready, depending on the amount of fuel.
- >9900 - PIWIS Tester 3 must be connected to the vehicle.
- Select DME in the control unit search screen.
- Switch to the Drive links/checks menu item.
- Select the Drain fuel tank function.
- Activate the Drain fuel tank (= activate fuel pump)
function by pressing F8 - Start and drain the fuel tank.
Collect emerging fuel in the fuel container you have ready.
- To eliminate fuel vapours, position a suction hose nearby and switch on the suction device.
- Switch off ignition, switch off > 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3 and disconnect adapter line in the vehicle.
- When you have finished draining fuel, disconnect connecting line from the fuel low-pressure line.
