Draining The Fuel Tank Using Fuel Transfer Unit

WARNING:
Highly inflammable or explosive materials
- Danger of fire or explosion
- → Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.
- → Use suction to remove ignitable vapours.
- → Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.
- → Contain leaked media using non-flammable absorbent material and put it in a container designed for this purpose for disposal in accordance with local requirements.
- → Secure collection containers/vessels to prevent them from tipping over.

- Danger of chemical burns
- → Wear personal protective gear.
- → Ensure that there is good ventilation.
- → Avoid contact with caustic fluid.
- → If you do come into contact, wash off immediately with plenty of warm water and contact a doctor if necessary.
NOTIFICATION
Fuel can leak out when flange cover is removed when fuel tank is full
- Danger of fire, explosion or contact with fuel
- → If the fuel tank is full, approx. 20 liters of fuel must first be pumped out.
- → This procedure is performed by selecting the "Drain fuel tank" function using PIWIS Tester 3.
Information
Watch out for emerging fuel when disconnecting fuel lines. Place a clean cloth on the connection point, then loosen the connection.
- Observe safety instructions when working on the fuel system.
- Place a warning sign in a clearly visible position in the work area or on the vehicle.
- Place protective covers on the vehicle.
- Prepare fuel transfer unit for draining fuel.
- 4.1 Connect the fuel hose -1 - to the changeover tank.
- 4.2 Connect the venting device (transparent hose) -2 -.
- 4.3 Attach the pneumatic stop switch -3 - to the tank and secure with two knurled nuts.
- 4.4 Then connect the suction hose to the connection -1 -.
- Connect the earth cable.
The earth cable must be connected to the ground point on the vehicle while working!
- Disconnect the fuel level sensor.
- Extract fuel using > VAS 5190A - Fuel extractor
or > VAS 5190A - Fuel extractor
.
- 7.1 Insert suction hose into the fuel tank.
- 7.2 Drain the fuel.
- 7.2.1 Set changeover lever to "Extract fuel/Pump out vehicle".
- 7.2.2 Switch on the pump and extract the required amount of fuel.
