Removing Air Conditioning Compressor

WARNING: Refrigerant 
  • Danger of freezing 

    → Avoid contact with refrigerant.

    → Wear personal protective gear.

    → Observe the safety regulations for working on air-conditioned vehicles and handling refrigerant.

    → Observe the safety regulations for extraction and filling systems.

    → Observe the instructions for repairing air-conditioning systems and storing spare parts.

  1. Remove drive belt -1-  for air-conditioning compressor.

    1. 1.1 Remove protection cap -3-  .

    2. 1.2 Loosen fastening screw -5-  .

    3. 1.3 Insert change-over ratchet with socket-wrench insert Torx T55 into the recess -6-  on the eccentric adjuster and turn clockwise -arrow-  until the tensioning roller -2-  snaps upwards and the drive belt -1-  is loose.

      1. 1.3.1 Remove drive belt from the pulley on the air-conditioning compressor.
  2. Release and disconnect electric plug connection -2-  .

  3. Unscrew fastening screws -1-  .

    NOTE: Opened refrigerant system for repairs. 
    • Risk of moisture getting into the refrigerant system. 
    • Risk of contaminating the refrigerant circuit. 
    • Risk of saturation and irreparable damage to desiccator. 
    • Irreparable damage to the desiccator can damage the compressor and evaporator. 

      → After opening the refrigerant circuit, close off the refrigerant lines/connections immediately using the relevant stoppers. To avoid contaminating the refrigerant circuit, the stoppers for the different refrigerants must be stored and used separately.

      → The desiccator must be replaced if the air humidity is high and if the refrigerant circuit is left open for a long time.

  4. Disconnect refrigerant lines -3-  at the air-conditioning compressor.

    1. 4.1 Get a second mechanic to hold the air-conditioning compressor securely.
    2. 4.2 Unscrew fastening screws -2-  .
    3. 4.3 Remove refrigerant lines -3-  .
  5. Remove air-conditioning compressor in a downward direction.
