Removing Drive Belt For Air-Conditioning Compressor

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
WARNING: Rotating components 
  • Danger of limbs being trapped or severed 

    → Disconnect power supply to the drive motor of components or to the battery.

NOTE: Drive belt removed incorrectly 
  • Risk of damage to drive belt 

    → Only remove the drive belt when it is cold.

    → Replace damaged drive belt.

NOTE: Drive belt breaks and becomes jammed 
  • Risk of damage to components (trim panels, electric cables, etc.) 
  • Leaks at the crankshaft vibration damper sealing ring 
  • Vibration damper can overheat and lose its strength 

    → Following belt breakage, check adjacent components and the interior of the engine compartment for damage. Repair or replace damaged parts.

    → Find out why the belt broke. Check deflection rollers or crankshaft vibration dampers for prior damage.

    → If the drive belt is jammed, replace the vibration damper.

  1. Slacken drive belt for air-conditioning compressor.
    1. 1.1 Use Torx wrench T55 -1-  to fit the lever on the belt tensioner -2-  , turn it as far as it will go in a clockwise direction and hold it at that position.
    2. 1.2 Remove drive belt for air-conditioning compressor -3-  from the tensioning roller.
    3. 1.3 Carefully allow the belt tensioner -2-  to turn back to its original position.

  2. Guide out drive belt for air-conditioning compressor -3-  and remove it.
  3. Check pulleys for damage.
