Removing Wheel Bearing Housing

- Remove brake cover panel -1-

Mounting for brake cover panel
- 1.1 Unscrew fastening screws -2- .
- Remove front level sensor -1-
on the body.

- 2.1 Screw off nut -2- .
- Remove cable holder -1-

- 3.1 Unscrew fastening screws -2- .
- For vehicles with all-wheel drive:
Use > VAS 6926 - Puller set
to press the drive shaft peg max > Control value + 10 mm
into the wheel hub so that the drive shaft splines are no longer engaged in the wheel hub > Pressing in drive shaft

- Remove tie-rod ball -1-
on the wheel bearing housing.

- Remove lower trailing arm -1-
on the wheel bearing housing.

- 6.1 Support upper trailing arm on the body using > VW552 - Spring tensioner
to prevent damage to the ball joint on the upper trailing arm due to the weight of the wheel bearing housing.
- 6.1.1 > VW552 - Spring tensioner
must be secured to body > Securing spring compressor to body.

- 6.1.2 > VW552 - Spring tensioner
must be secured to the upper trailing arm > Securing spring compressor to upper trailing arm.

- 6.1.3 > VW552 - Spring tensioner must be pre-tensioned slightly.
- 6.1.1 > VW552 - Spring tensioner
must be secured to body > Securing spring compressor to body.
- 6.2 Unscrew nut -2-
on joint pin for lower axle joint as far as required until it is flush with the upper edge of the joint pin.

- 6.3 Remove sleeve -1-
from > T10187 - Press-out tool

- 6.4 Press off joint pin on the lower trailing arm using > T10187 - Press-out tool

- 6.5 Screw off nut -2- on joint pin for the axle joint.
Mounting for lower trailing arm on wheel bearing housing
- 6.1 Support upper trailing arm on the body using > VW552 - Spring tensioner
to prevent damage to the ball joint on the upper trailing arm due to the weight of the wheel bearing housing.
- Remove upper trailing arm -1-
on the wheel bearing housing.

- 7.1 Unscrew nut -2- on joint pin for axle joint as far as required until it is flush with the upper edge of the joint pin.
- 7.2 Press off joint pin on the upper trailing arm using > T10187 - Press-out tool

- 7.3 Screw off nut -2- on joint pin for the axle joint.
Mounting for upper trailing arm on wheel bearing housing
- Carefully guide out wheel bearing housing.
- 8.1 For vehicles with all-wheel drive: Pull the drive shaft out of the splines of the wheel hub and set it down carefully on the lower trailing arm.
