Replacing Control Unit For Electric Parking Brake

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE: Voltage drop 
  • Irreparable damage to control unit 
  • Damage to control unit 
  • Fault entries in the control unit 
  • Control unit programming/coding is aborted 
  • Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming/coding 

    → Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.

    → Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.

    → Connect the battery charger with at least >current 90 A  to the vehicle battery.

Information 

The PIWIS Tester  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester  .

  1. Replace control unit.

    > 466219 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CONTROL UNIT FOR ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE 

  2. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
  3. Select the vehicle if required.
  4. Select the PSM  control unit in the overview  . Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
  5. Maintenance/repairs  must now be selected.
  6. Adjust parking brake  must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
  7. Follow the instructions on the Tester. Press F12 to continue.
  8. Only perform the Grind down parking brake  function for vehicles with steel brakes. Do not  perform the function for grinding down the parking brake for vehicles with PCCB  .
    1. 8.1 Select the Grind down parking brake  function. Press F12 to continue and then press F8 to start.
    2. 8.2 Follow the instructions on the Tester.
    3. 8.3 Follow the instructions on the Tester.
  9. Calibrate parking brake  must then be selected. Press F12 to continue.
  10. Follow the instructions on the Tester.
  11. Read out the fault memory  and erase it if necessary.
  12. Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
  13. Check function of electric parking brake by actuating the lever.

    If the LED on the button starts flashing after the first function test, perform the following step.

    1. 13.1 Perform a further function test. Check function of electric parking brake by actuating the lever again.
