Installing Transmission

- Support the transmission on a transmission jack and secure with a retaining strap.
- Grease the input shaft -arrow- on the transmission.
- Guide the transmission into the transmission tunnel.
- Slide rubber sleeve on the operating cable through the support and engage the ends of the cable -1- on the transmission.
- Insert safety clips -2- on the support.
- Fit transmission with a spacer plate and mount it on the engine by turning the output shaft.
- Screw in new fastening screws for securing transmission to engine. When doing so, make sure to install the exhaust system holders at the left and right. → Initial tightening: 38 Nm (28 ftlb.) → Final tightening: 90°
- Screw in fastening screws for securing transmission support to body -1- . → Tightening torque: 65 Nm (48 ftlb.)
- Fit chassis brace. For details of torques, see → WM 4X00IN TIGHTENING TORQUES FOR FRONT AXLE
- Install slave cylinder.
- Push on cable plug on sensor. Secure line to holder.
- Connect cable plug -arrow- for reverse gear on the transmission.
- Install exhaust system holder -2- at the right of the transmission.
- Secure the right exhaust system holder -2- on the primary catalytic converter. To do this, screw in the screw -1- .
